How to prepare clothing product images before a photoshoot
A clear image plan helps a collection feel consistent before garments reach a studio or a product page.
Short answer: Decide which garment views, colourways and details each product needs. Keep the garment source image, artwork and product information together, then review every finished image at its intended listing size before publishing.
Make an image list for the whole collection
Start with a list of products and the images each one needs. A useful starting set is a clear front view, a back view when decoration or construction matters, and close details for distinctive features. Add an on model image when fit or styling is important to the customer.
Use the same view order and crop across products. Decide how much space the garment occupies in frame, where the background sits and whether images use a square or portrait crop. Write this down before making variations.
Prepare a collection in batches
For a large collection, group the actual garment photographs, model views and artwork in clearly named folders. Include the product code, supplier, colour and view in a name when it affects the match. Review the proposed matches before creating designs, then check one representative result before exporting the rest.
Creative Studio can use saved workspace photos or image folders selected from this device. Folder selection is not a Google Drive connection, and the current preview does not generate new model photographs. Keep product only and model imagery separate until the garment and artwork references are confirmed.
Keep product photography and model photography distinct
Product only imagery makes colour, shape and garment detail easier to compare. Model imagery helps a shopper understand styling and proportions. Use each for the task it serves, and do not use a model photograph as the blank garment master.
For a new product, check the garment, colourway, available view and any important construction detail against the real sample. A visual preview can help explore placement, but a printer or manufacturer should confirm production files and the approved physical sample.
Place artwork with a review process
- Use the approved logo or artwork file and keep the original unchanged.
- Record the intended garment view and placement, such as left chest or centre front.
- Review artwork scale against the garment dimensions, not only the screen.
- Check the design on each garment colour and each required view.
- Keep a separate production proof for approval by the print or embroidery team.
Screen previews can differ from fabric, ink and thread. Do not treat a product mockup as a manufacturing file or colour guarantee.
A simple final review
- Is the garment shown from the correct view?
- Is the complete garment visible without stretching or awkward cropping?
- Does the colour match the approved sample or supplier reference?
- Can the artwork be read at the size customers will see?
- Are product only images and model images clearly identified?
How Creative Studio fits
Creative Studio is a local preview for organising garments, artwork and model imagery, creating mockup variations and exporting image files. Work is saved in the current browser. Cloud storage, automatic Shopify publishing and photo realistic artwork warping are not connected in this preview.
Open the local Creative Studio preview and review its current capabilities before using the export in a live store.
Common questions
Should every garment have a model image?
No. Use a product only image when shoppers need to inspect the garment clearly. Add a model image when it helps explain styling, fit or proportion.
Can a mockup replace a production proof?
No. A mockup communicates a visual direction. The production team should confirm artwork, print or embroidery method, placement and final proof before making the order.
What should stay consistent across a collection?
Keep view order, framing, background, image dimensions and naming consistent. Record colour and artwork changes separately for each product.
Can I apply artwork across a large model photo set?
The local collection workflow can pair artwork and selected photos using view and product details present in file and folder names. Review the proposed matches and the first mockup before creating the rest. Direct Google Drive access and automatic photo generation are not connected in this preview.
